YTL Pacific Star CEO dies after surgery

YTL Pacific Star CEO Franklin Heng has passed away after undergoing surgery on Wednesday evening.

The 44-year-old had been at the helm of YTL Pacific Star since July 2005. The company manages Starhill Global REIT, which owns local malls Wisma Atria and Ngee Ann City.

'We are shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden loss,' said YTL Pacific Star's executive chairman Francis Yeoh.

'Franklin spearheaded the listing of Starhill Global REIT in September 2005 and has since led the team to grow the Reit's portfolio from two initial assets in Singapore to 10 in Singapore, China and Japan, with potential acquisitions in Australia and Malaysia,' he added.

Besides being a company steward, Mr Heng had been sharing his 15 years of mergers and acquisitions experience to aspiring fund managers in his position as a part-time lecturer with the Singapore Management University's executive programme for real estate and Reits.

Before joining YTL Pacific Star, he was the president of investment and fund management at Pacific Star Fund Management.

He also worked in JPMorgan for nearly eight years and rose up the ranks to become its head for energy and infrastructure in the Southeast Asia region.

Any idea which clinic and which shopping center? So many aesthetics clinics say their doctors can do so many things including lipo, make longer/thicker kuku jiaus and make vagina walls smaller by injecting fillers...etc. KNN...

THE chief executive of a $1 billion property firm died last week, following cosmetic treatment at an Orchard Road clinic.

On Dec 30, 44-year-old Franklin Heng was ferried by ambulance from the clinic to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

TTSH chief executive Lim Suet Wun said the case has been referred to the coroner.

'The patient came from a GP clinic and had had liposuction done earlier that afternoon,' he told The Straits Times.

Although Mr Heng showed no signs of life when he arrived at the hospital just after 5pm, doctors spent almost an hour attempting to resuscitate him, said Dr Lim.

A spokesman for the Health Ministry also said it was investigating the matter.

Man who died after liposuction could be Singapore's first case
By :
Date : 07 January 2010 2237 hrs (SST)

SINGAPORE: The recent death of a 44-year-old man who had undergone liposuction at a general practitioner's clinic could be Singapore's first such case.

Franklin Heng, CEO of YTL Pacific Star, died recently after a liposuction treatment.

Singapore's Ministry of Health is unable to provide the latest figures, but media reports have said there were no such deaths in 2008 and 2009.

The Singapore Medical Association said on Thursday that since July 2008, it has received three complaints related to aesthetics treatment, but none were about liposuction.

Generally, liposuction has a 90 per cent success rate, according to plastic surgeons. But the surgery is not as easy as it seems because mastering the procedure requires years of training.

Dr Woffles Wu, a plastic surgeon, said: "I don't think liposuction should be done by a non-surgical specialist. I think GPs need to get a surgical degree if they want to do a surgical procedure."

Currently, licensed general practitioners can only remove 1 kilogramme of fat, and Dr Wu said proper training is needed to overcome any complications that may occur.

He said: "It has to come from training, learning how to do liposuction. We studied how to do this when we were in plastic surgery residency, which goes on for four to five years.

"You learn how to put the fluids in, you learn how to maintain the equilibrium of the patients, you know when the patient is losing blood. You know when to put back blood, you know where the dangerous areas are... these things all come into play.

"It's when you get aggressive, or when you start thinking that liposuction is a very easy procedure, that's when you run into a mistake."

Complications include fat embolism, where fats enter the circulatory system during surgery, as well as electrolyte imbalance, where the lack of salts could cause seizures in a body.

Experts said inexperience can also result in the tube - used to remove fats in liposuction - puncturing a vital organ, resulting in internal bleeding.

Liposuction

Freia Medical Aesthetics is proud to announce the arrival of a latest addition to our comprehensive range of services, Liposelection by Vaser®. Vaser® is taking the world by storm with its innovative and advanced technology. It has revolutionalised the way we think about liposuction.

Vaser® is an ultrasound-assisted liposuction device that selectively breaks down only fatty tissue, leaving all the other important structures such as blood vessels, nerves and connective tissues relatively unaffected. The result, significantly reduced discomfort during and after the procedure. Independent studies also report minimal blood loss and bruising.

This means a much safer, tolerable procedure with a greatly reduced post-operative recovery period. Surgeons and patients around the world are also reporting much better results in terms of contouring and sculpting. We have witnessed this first hand in our practice.

Areas that can be treated successfully include tummy, “love handles”, hips, thighs, arms, back and chin. It’s your body-be selective. Choose Liposelection by Vaser.

Wats e cause?? Die from Liposuction??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_handles

Love handles, in colloquial or slang speech, are a layer of fat that is deposited around a person's midsection, especially visible on the sides over the abdominal external oblique muscle.

Origins
The term first appeared in the late 1960s, and is defined in the Historical Dictionary of American Slang as a bulge of fat at the side of the waist."[1]

Both men and women tend to be image-conscious regarding love handles, sometimes leading to a negative body image. While many products are marketed for eliminating love handles, it is generally agreed that spot reduction is impossible, and that the best way to reduce them is to lose fat by being more active (through activities such as cardiovascular exercise and weight training) and consuming fewer calories. [2]

In July 2007 The Washington Post published an article simply titled "Love Handles" which claimed that, while weight gain was once blamed on genes inherited from one's parents, a study had shown that people were 57% more likely to become obese if a friend did first,[3] and in August of the same year, Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper ran a story with the headline "Nicolas Sarkozy love handles 'airbrushed'" which claimed that a photograph of the French president Nicolas Sarkozy had been edited when they were published in a magazine owned by one of his friends.[4] The expression was also used by CBS News in March 2008 in an article entitled "When Lions Get Love Handles" which described the difficulties zoos are having in ensuring a balanced diet for the animals in their care.[5]

Love handles are also colloquially called a spare tire due to the enlarged tire-like shape around the midsection.[6] Other synonyms are midriff bulge, muffin top and belt overhang.
