SINGAPORE: Police arrested four youths who stole about 30 packets of cigarettes from a hawker stall in Bukit Merah Central in the wee hours on Monday.

A passer-by, Palanee Velu, observed them behaving suspiciously near a hawker stall and called the police.

Police then conducted checks on four youths fitting the descriptions given by Velu.

The cigarettes were found in two of the suspects' bags.

Police said the two suspects are believed to have climbed into the stall and stole the cigarettes while the other two acted as look-outs.

The four suspects, aged between 13 and 14 years, will be charged in court on Wednesday.

If convicted, each can be jailed up to seven years.
