Hyenas are no joke. They love distracting lions and attack their young or sick from behind. Not my favourite animal.

Oh no, besides mating with the females, the male lions job is to mark the pride's territory and roar to tell other lions to stay away. In the that documentary I mentioned, it shows the males coming to the rescue of the pride and killing and maiming some hyenas.
