YOG gets positive reviews, says Games organising chairman
By Patwant Singh | Posted: 19 August 2010 1853 hrs

SINGAPORE : Chairman of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee is pleased with Singapore's performance so far, and hopes the country can win a few more medals.

Singapore has already won four medals - a silver from swimming, two bronzes from taekwondo, and another bronze from archery.

Mr Ng Ser Miang said he has also received good feedback about the Games.

He said: "We have been getting a lot of very favourable comments from colleagues from all round the world - National Olympic Committees, International Federations and the IOCs.

"Checked in with athletes too and they have been very happy with the Village, the competition venues, the culture programme."

Volunteers leh?!

When a rich man throws a lavish party, his primary concern is the welfare and entertainment of the guests, not the servants.

As Chairman, he lacks the BIG HEART and takes his time basking in the light of compliments, and conveniently forgetting the hundreds of student volunteers who have been slogging daily from early morning till night to support the event. Especially at times like this when hiccups and controversies abound, how much would it cost just to give some words of encouragement and due credit to these volunteers. Even though the game is still going on, he plays an important role to boost the morale of the volunteers at appropriate intervals. He could have added one simple sentence , "YOG would not have been possible if not for the sacrifices and support of the volunteers, and I really appreciate their great effort. " They are student volunteers doesn't mean they can be taken for granted. Afterall, they are humans with feelings too. One thing I notice, he takes compliments but is stingy with them. :(

Probably he forgot to ask views of singaporeans, which is needless to say, right at the bottom of his list..
