SINGAPORE: Thousand of commuters were stranded during rush-hour after a power fault disrupted train services on all 16 stations on the Circle Line on Tuesday morning.

SMRT said the disruption started at about 5.30am. Train services were gradually restored from 8am and all services were restored just before 10am.

Dakota and Mountbatten stations were the last two to resume operations.

Even after 8.30am when services were up and running in most stations, there were pockets of delay.

A train at Serangoon station going towards Dhoby Ghaut stopped for about 10 minutes at 9.35am for "track rectification" works.

At Paya Lebar station, bus bridging services which had been ferrying commuters from 6.30am, were still on standby.

Commuters Channel NewsAsia spoke to were concerned over the service breakdown, and added that the four-hour delay was beyond acceptable.

This is the first Circle Line breakdown since the second stretch from Bartley to Dhoby Ghaut opened in April last year.

The first stretch from Bartley to Marymount opened in May 2009.
