Former NBAer Yao Ming sued for 1 yuan in China

Former NBA big man Yao Ming is in a bit of legal trouble.
And by bit, we mean .17 cents worth.
The former first overall pick by the Houston rockets is being sued for .17 cents -- or 1 yuan -- in China after a product he endorsed allegedly failed to produce the desired results.
China Daily reported the lawsuit Thursday and said Beijing resident Feng Changshun is also going after Baxsun Pharmacy, a retail chain he said lied about the benefits of fish oil capsules.
Feng is suing the pharmacy for around $80, the report stated.
“(The lawsuit) is symbolic,” Feng told China Daily. “I want (Yao Ming) to admit to infringements of my rights.
“According to the handout, the product could help ease my sufferings,” he said.
Feng was hoping the product would help with his memory loss and poor eyesight. He claims to be a Yao fan, which is why he decided to purchase the capsules.
The symbolic lawsuit certainly won’t have an impact on the former Houston Rockets centre’s bottom line. Yao is estimated to have made close to $65 million during his NBA career before retiring in 2011.
His image appears on the product.
“Yao exercised discretion when he selected the company to endorse it, believing it is an accountable enterprise,” Yao’s agent, Lu Hao, told China Daily.
