S'pore may be a 'green' city, but our beaches are filthy

This stretch of beach at East Coast is strewn with rubbish. With so few beaches in Singapore available for beachgoers, STOMPer Stanley feels it is high time we maintained them properly.

In an email today (June 22), the STOMPer wrote:

"These pictures were taken at East Coast Beach, near the jetty on June 17.

"I am embarrassed as a Singapore citizen and regular beachgoer that Singapore has been named a green city when it has such a dirty sea.

"The trash seems to be due to increased shipping in the area. Commercial ship crews dump their trash overboard and it washes up on the beach like this. I hear the same problem exists at Sentosa Cove as well.

"Perhaps we should have a barrier to prevent this stuff actually getting onto our beaches.

"It is time to clean up our beaches."

wahlaneh...
beaches under NParks under MND mah.
ur case will be referred to MarbokTan for action.

Don't disturb him. He is having an afternoon siesta after a 3 hour lunch.
Just blame the FT contractor from Bangladesh.
We must not stress him too much like what happen to KBW.

in the first place, there are no beaches in Singapore - only bitches.

back to the point, the beach at East Coast is pathetic...it can never be clean if the sea out there is a fucking vast toilet for the tankers / container ships anchorage. How can the rubbish not get washed up the shore.

Moreover, since Geography lessons in Secondary school tells me that the beach at East Coast is constantly being eroded by the current so much so that it is practically not a beach.

compared to the beach at Bali - our beach is a sham

When you are being paid millions, where got time and mood to work? Not his fault la. Very stressful with millions to spend.

alot of rubbish are from offshore, you take a look at the sembawang and ponggol beach and you would find out where most of the rubbish are from but without doubt singaporeans also contributed a fair bit. It is the job of every singaporean who wants to have clean beaches to play a part and not rely on the govt.

It may not be the same quality as Phuket & Bali but in the past the Spore beach experience was quite ok

People went to Changi or the outer islands.

For those who can remember, in the old days, Changi beach was where people went for fun. Places like east coast & Sentosa are artificial beaches & not very good.

We must thank the PAP for modernising Changi & the outer islands. Unfortunately their their ideas on modernisation is about $$$ & not about leaving a place untouched in its natural state.
