Pollution, or just burning excess gas at Pulau Bukom?

STOMPer Timmie believes that the thick clouds of smoke being emitted from an oil refinery at Pulau Bukom is polluting our environment. However, there's no cause for alarm as the smoke is caused by flaring; a procedure performed at refineries to burn off excess gas.

STOMP understands that this smoke is composed of mainly water and carbon dioxide.

Flaring is performed at refineries to burn off excess gas, so that pressure does not build up in the equipment.

In Singapore, all flaring is subject to regulatory limits.

The concerned STOMPer says:

"You can see from the video that it is the usual air pollution caused by the Pulau Bukom oil refinery.

"Mother Earth is fragile and we are not doing much to protect her."
