Continued fire between Israel and Iran despite a U.S.-brokered cease-fire drew an angry response from President Trump.

Hours after the truce went into effect, Israel said Iran had fired missiles at it and promised to “respond with force.”Meanwhile, Iran accused Israel of attacking it in three waves.

Trump warned Israel not to drop bombs on Iran and said he had told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to call back Israeli planes that were headed there. Referencing both Iran and Israel, he said, "These guys got to calm down. Ridiculous." Trump also made clear the U.S. wasn't seeking a regime change in Iran.

Israel had earlier Tuesday confirmed the cease-fire, saying it had achieved its war aims having removed a “dual existential threat” from Iran’s nuclear and ballistic-missile programs. Iran's foreign minister had said his country would stop its attacks as long as Israel did.

Trump announced the cease-fire on social media Monday evening, hours after Iran launched missiles at a U.S. base in Qatar in a telegraphed attack that caused no injuries or deaths. Trump said the early notice and lack of casualties left the door open for an end to the fighting.

Warnings of Iranian missile attacks sent Israelis scrambling in and out of shelters beginning around dawn Tuesday. Israel said four people were killed in an Iranian missile attack.

Stocks rose while oil prices fell on Tuesday morning, as investors bet that a delicate ceasefire between Israel and Iran would hold.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 406 points, or 0.9%. The S&P 500 gained 0.9%, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.3%.

Oil prices were sharply lower for a second-straight day. U.S. crude oil slipped more than 5%, alongside international benchmark Brent. A day earlier, U.S. crude oil fell more than 7%.

Airline stocks were higher as oil pulled back, with shares of United Airlines, Frontier and Delta all climbing more than 2%. Broadcom and Nvidiaadvanced 3% and 2%, respectively, as investor appetite for risk grew.
