Maybe Parliament should update its law pertaining to our GEs. For instance, for anyone who loses his/her deposit, no further participation in future GEs. Can a person who loses his/her deposit ever make a comeback? Unlikely.

For those getting below 33.3% (without loss of deposit), they should be given another try. Why 33.3%? Because, in a straight fight, a candidate is expected to achieve that average.

For those above 33.3%, they can take part until they lose their deposits. This way, we eliminate clowns from contesting.

Interesting points but if we really aspire to be democracy we should let whoever take part. It's really up to us to decide by voting.

me think the following

there is no need to have such a big deposit
so that more people can stand for erection

also there is no need to lose your deposit at all

why deter people from standing for the erection

the more the merrier

right ?

No use. There will always be new clowns. Better the clown u know than the clown u don't.

more worth considering

a longer notice ...few months ahead ...about nomination day and polling day
so that people can plan ...many singaporeans have plans of travel...and many
have no chance to vote at all....damned sad

many teachers are caught off guard...some are pregnant and cannot help
some plan for long weekends ....and many have to cancel their prior appointments

time to give ample notice ...time to grow up...time to prepare the people

nomination day...why only one hour???

give people and staff ample time lah....why the rush and why the hurry

let us be more people friendly from now on...no need to rush everything

no need to hide your weapons and your candidates

no need to do all these anymore

be fair and square

let the battle be a level-playing field

no need to undercut, underscore, undersabo , underkick.....no dirty tricks
no character assassinations...no need to use all these old tricks lah

singaporeans have matured
so let the people decide

present your views in a good and gentleman way
no need to hit people below the belt
no need to threaten
no need to sabo here and sabo there

be fair
be honest
be truthful

congratulate both the losers and the victors

majulah singapura!!!

you mean like Kenneth son of JBJ?

Why our standards so high?

In angmo countries 5% votes can get you a seat in Parliament!

That is true democracy.

Don't expect electoral reforms with an overwhelming PAP majority. Why would they want to upset the status quo? It's super easy to bribe some foreign-born spoiler to contest in an election. ;)
