the chap who invented the 1st ip-based desktop phone pitched the product to cisco, and cisco bought the company infogear for a tidy sum. i happen to know the inventor, and he started another company after amassing over half a billion in selling infogear to cisco. now the cisco ip-phone is almost everywhere in the corporate world in the u.s.

apple now has the trademark and copyright on iphone as it negotiated with and bought the rights from cisco some years ago after the launch of the apple iphone.

this cisco ip phone is pretty much the standard office phone you'll find in corporate america these days.
