Woman drugged and raped after a job interview in plastic firm
Just a day after the horrific case of gang rape of a computer teacher in Delhi, a 28-year-old graduate who was appearing for a job interview was given tea and biscuits laced with drugs and allegedly raped. The alleged rapist s runs a plastic fibre manufacturing unit in Rangpuri in Mahipalpur.
The accused, Ramesh Verma (35), a resident of Vasant Kunj, fled from the scene, but was arrested later by the police. But there are two versions: the police say that only Verma was involved, but the girl's family alleged that it was a case of gang rape.
According to the police, the woman lives in Pitampura and got Verma's reference a few days ago. She contacted Verma as she badly needed a job as her husband was not earning much to support the family. Verma promptly asked her to come to his office in Mahipalpur for an interview.
Verma told her to meet him in his private chamber and after a few questions, he offered the victim tea and biscuits. She fell unconscious after consuming the biscuits, according to investigating officer. Verma then allegedly raped her and fled from the spot. The woman regained consciousness a few hours later and called the police control room around 4pm.
The police sent her for a medical examination at the Safdarjung Hospital where rape was confirmed.
The police maintained that only Verma was involved in the incident which took place on Tuesday. "However, we are investigating if anyone else helped him in the crime", the police said.
