SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 34-year-old woman who is believed to be responsible for stealing mobile phones from taxi drivers.
Police said that between May and October, they received several reports of mobile phones being stolen from taxi drivers in Bedok, Jurong and Ang Mo Kio housing estates.
The suspect would engage the taxi drivers in conversation before making a few calls on her mobile phone. She would then ask to borrow the taxi drivers' mobile phones, claiming that her own mobile phone was low on battery or faulty.
When she reached her destination, she would alight on the pretext of running for errands while taking the drivers' mobile phones along with her.
Police officers mounted an ambush and arrested the woman on Tuesday.
