Chitchat Woman sues Prudential, saying insurer used 'buried clause' to deny S$100,000 brain surgery claim

Insurance companies sell u the promise that insurance is an umbrella you can use when it rains. But they never tell you how heavy the rain must be, before the umbrella can be used.
Umbrella is to protect u from rain, but only if it is not also windy. Sio siang mah. Cot is not arbiter of moral obligbligation. To judge say umbrellas must keep u dry.

The problem is that the insurer will pull away the umbrella when it starts to rain.

even if she were to lose the lawsuit she would have already served the public by publicising and informing everyone about the pitfalls of signing up with prude-ntial and the shenanigans they would go thru’ to deny her the coverage. they may retain or win a paltry $100k in insurance-payout terms but potentially lose millions in policy boycotts, avoidance and cancellations by would-be and existing clients. in other words a phyrric victory.
The judge may ask her to pay punitive cost of the trial.
This is the PAP way to silence the majority from seeking justice.

Similarly, in good times banks will persuade u to take a bigger loan but in bad times banks will ask u to repay their loans or reduce your credit facilities.

I really admire the woman’s courage in taking on Prudential, especially without legal representation. That said, this is a critical illness (CI) plan, and endovascular treatment for brain aneurysms is very commonly not covered under CI payouts. So it’s not quite accurate to call Prudential a “market outlier” for having such a clause. If you look across the industry, you’ll find similar definitions used by insurers like Great Eastern and SingLife.

At the end of the day, CI plans are designed to pay out a lump sum when a condition meets a specific definition of severity, rather than to reimburse medical bills. Because of that, insurers set fairly strict criteria for what counts as a “critical” illness, and it’s quite common for that to be tied to the type of treatment involved.

Your England damn powerful. What are you talking about?
What I am saying is the insurer is selling u an umbrella. Umbrella keep u dry when it is raining. What if it is also windy? U still get wet mah. Not the umbrella not working. It is only meant to keep u dry under very specific conditions. Very specific conditions then ur actuallians can estimate mah. Then can make money mah. Insulance is to makes money mah. Not do charity. U buy insulance is to buy a product, not do charity help u neighbour. Sad but true. :frown:

Want to do charity help ur self help others, only govt can do it. Not the Pap govt tho. Not the stingy old men in charge.

They already made money by collecting your premium up front.
On another note, private hospitals can easily cut off insurance from the biz if they collect premium instead of insurers.
That money hospitals collect go to better facilities and up to date procedures. Unspent money kept in deposits for emergency treatments.
