Woman jailed for bribe offer

A HONGKONG woman who was convicted of offering a bribe to an immigration officer was jailed for two months on Friday. Yeung Ki Chun, 39, a beautician, was found guilty of offering HK$500 (S$90) to Immigration and Checkpoints specialist Michael Anthony Jesudass as an inducement to allow her to enter Singapore without a valid visa. The offence took place at Woodlands Checkpoint last Oct 21. Yeung, who was convicted after a two-day trial, intends to appeal. Bail of $20,000 was offered. She could have been fined up to $100,000 and/or jailed for up to five years for corruption.
