SINGAPORE : A 54-year-old woman is in a coma after falling onboard an SMRT bus on Sunday night.

It is believed that Madam Ding Weibo fractured her skull after hitting her head on a seat.

The bus driver had apparently applied the brakes suddenly.

Madam Ding and her daughter had just boarded bus 167 at about 8pm at Orchard Road, near Heeren shopping centre, when the driver jammed the brakes.

Both made a grab for the handrails, but the force of the brake threw Madam Ding onto the floor.

She was sent unconscious to the Singapore General Hospital.

Her daughter, Ding Xiao Sui, told Channel NewsAsia that Madam Ding suffered internal bleeding, and had to have an operation.

She is still in critical condition.

The family plans to lodge a complaint against the driver.

Her daughter said: "I was so scared and panicked, I did not know what to do. I kept calling for her, but there was no response. She was fine in the afternoon, she was shopping, and now she is in this state."

In a statement, SMRT said "We are sorry the incident happened and investigations is on-going. We will be in touch with the family..."

LTA recommends that all bus passengers must wear helmets when they are standing & seat belts when they are sitting. Those who are caught not wearing helmets or using the seat belts will be fined $500. You can buy the bus helmets from all Fairprice supermarkets & Cheers Convenience Stores, there are 6 different clours to choose from, a 30% discounts will be given from now till December 31, 2011, member cards gets an additional 8% and 2,000 link points.

Another scam to ask for damages from the SMRT! Fortunately, the Terms and Conditions in the Bus Passenger Service Agreement absolved the transport company of all responsibilities. Old peasants should stay put at home instead of running around, making a nuisance of themselves. Not all old people are as healthy as Lee Kuan Yew.

Always an opportunity to make money - > very creative. Did you lift this out of a template ?

The bus driver had apparently applied the brakes suddenly.

This happens with increasing frequency these days, especially with Ah Tiong drivers.

Outsource everything lah! Fuck care quality, the cheaper the better.

But remember: in the case of public transport, you may lose your life if the quality is not good.

Nowadays it's also very dangerous to travel by bus . These PRC drivers keep stepping on the brakes for no apparent reason. Very poor driving skill.

Calling a spade, spade ( not kate), fair enough, it is not easy for any bus CAPTAIN to drive a bus from the junction of CK Tang, all the way to D Ghaut MRT Station bus stop, especially the Paragon & The Heeren Junction, it is very congested. During the festive seasons & sales season, the driver have to be very alert.

Other than that, I noticed that our drivers, tend to step on the brakes very hard & suddenly too, if one is a regular bus commuters will know. On some bus service, the bus CAPTAIN drive the bus, like they are navigating down a narrow river, stepping frequently on the brakes & jerking the bus that makes you feel seasick, on land. Maybe the Tpt Ministar is a Naval man, that is why we have thi seasick feature on bus that travel on land.:D

lianbeng says, "that woman's family should sue SMRT every cent."

sounds like ah tiong...if so, pls file under "review after 10 yr" - SMRT has too much on their plates now.
