Woman dies after being slashed more than 10 times on face, boyfriend charged

A woman died after she was slashed on her face more than 10 times, which also blinded her in both eyes. Her boyfriend was arrested on the spot and he has been charged with her murder.
According to a report in The Straits Times, Xiao Guiliang, 30, a driver, allegedly caused the death of Ms Zhang Jie, 25, at the 10-storey flat at Block 674 Choa Chu Kang Crescent between 2am and 2.20am on Sunday.
Ms Zhang, a sales person, was said to have been slashed multiple times. Xiao was charged at Singapore General Hospital. His case will be mentioned on July 29. If convicted of murder, he faces the mandatory death penalty.
Neighbours said around midnight yesterday, they heard the sounds of a violent quarrel. There also seemed to be chaos inside the flat and in the midst of it, it sounded like someone had been injured. Neighbours later saw a woman sent to the hospital.
A report in Shin Min also mentioned blood from the grisly attack had even pooled on the floor outside the flat.
The police were seen investigating for over 12 hours, and took away about 10 bags of evidence.
According to the Straits Times, both the deceased woman and her boyfriend are believed to be Chinese nationals.
The unit is owned by a man, about 50 years old, who has been renting out the flat to foreigners.
Police had received a call for assistance at about 2.20am yesterday, while paramedics were alerted at 2.22am.
The woman died at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital from her grave injuries despite emergency rescue efforts to save her.
