The woman — who some internet users claim is transsexual — was spotted dancing naked in the early hours of the morning. (Internet photo)

A woman who was seen dancing naked around 4:30 am on Wednesday morning outside a bar in Xiamen in southeastern China was later detained by the police, reports Fujian-based news website Haidu.

The woman naturally drew a crowd of onlookers taking photos of the scene. The woman was later detained after fighting with police. Some speculated the woman was under the influence of drugs, while a rumor — later proved false — went around that she had killed herself the following day.

Another rumor emerged that the woman was well known by pub regulars to be transsexual, and also that the bar paid her to strip naked to draw attention to the business.

The bar said it is concerned about the incident and will announce the results of the police investigation as soon as it is known.
