A woman who was charged a week ago with cheating another woman of her iPhone may be facing additional charges, a court heard on Friday.

Shereem Chua Yi Qing, 24, has been accused of deceiving Ms Amanda Yeo Pei Min, 20, into believing that Chua was pregnant and would employ Ms Yeo at $2,400 a month to take care of her.

She then allegedly induced Ms Yeo to hand over her $1,000 iPhone for "work purpose'', which she would not have done if she had not been deceived.

The alleged offence occurred at the void deck of Block 503C Wellington Circle on May 15, 2011.

SINGAPORE: A jobless woman has been sentenced to 15 months' jail for cheating.

24-year-old Shereem Chua Yi Qing was found guilty of nine counts, involving about S$32,000.

Twenty two other similar counts were taken into consideration.

The court heard that she conned her victims by promising them jobs such as secretaries, telemarketers and even as her bodyguard.

In exchange, they gave her mobile phones and money.

Over two years from January 2010, 14 people believed her story.

Chua sold the mobile phones to pay for her personal expenses.

Chua also devised other ways to trick her victims.

These included fooling a victim into handing over S$500 by promising to arrange an appointment for a pregnancy test.

She also impersonated as a staff of Citibank to get a victim to hand over S$5,000 on the pretext of settling the victim's bank loans.
