SINGAPORE: Police arrested a 36-year-old Singaporean woman on Monday night at East Coast Park in connection with the decomposed body found off Clementi Road last week.

Forensic tests have established the identity of the victim as 37-year-old Celine Ng Swee Peng.

It's understood the victim knew the suspect.

Ng had been reported missing since May 26.

The suspect, who will be charged with murder on Wednesday, led police investigators to West Coast Park earlier on Tuesday to search for what is believed to be the victim's personal belongings and to collect evidence.

POLICE have confirmed the badly decomposed body found at Clementi Woods Park on July 5 is that of property agent Celine Ng Swee Peng.

Ms Ng, 36, is suspected to have been murdered. Earlier in May this year, she was reported missing.

Due to the severe state of decomposition, identification of the body was difficult, said the police in a statement.

However, after investigations a 36-year-old female Singaporean was arrested on Monday night in connection with the case.

Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, senior assistant commissioner of police Hoong Wee Teck commended his officers for their doggedness, saying: 'The case posed challenges due to the advanced state of decomposition. I am glad that the officers were able to solve the case successfully.'

At the second mention of her case on Wednesday, the 37-year-old's lawyer Subhas Anandan applied for permission to talk to her in front of the investigation officer and deputy public prosecutor to let her know her rights.

He quoted the criminal procedure code which says that a person does not have to say anything that will incriminate himself.

District Judge Lim Tse Haw turned down counsel's application for access and ordered that Ang be remanded until July 27.

Ang is alleged to have caused the death of property agent Celine Ng Swee Peng, 36, at the West Bay condominium on West Coast Crescent on May 26 between 3am and 9.50am. They had lived in the two-bedroom unit bought by Ms Ng.

Ms Ng was reported missing by her family members on May 28, two days after her disappearance. Her decomposed body was found in Clementi Woods Park about 400km away from her condominium on July 5.
