Overheard in a telephone conversation – Wednesday 18th May 2011
Minister Tharman: Hi Gerard. We are considering you to head a committee to review Ministers’ pay.
Gerard Ee: Really Sir? You all are serious about a review? What should I do?
MT: Do what you were doing when heading the Public Transport Committee.
GE: You mean I will always get your support and approval.
MT: Why not you know what we are looking for always.
GE: What are you looking for now?
MT: Well … you know we have to show to the public …… consider a reasonable cut ….. but not too much …. we still must be able to convince high earners to come in …
Not five but maybe four times that of Obama’s including all his other benefits ….our book will not sell and nobody will listen let alone pay for our lectures …
GE: Who do you want in the committee?
MT: Those who are understanding – we will give you the list …
GE: Thanks Sir for the honour!
MT: Good. BTW you are invited to the Istana this Saturday.
