Contrary to popular belief, the Crown Prince is very close to Thaksin. His mother the Queen is so worried that she had to encourage the coup plotters to overthrow the Yingluck administration. This is to prevent the throne from falling after the death of the current king.

Ousted Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's lawyer has revealed Thaksin, recently ousted leader Yingluck Shinawatra and other leaders of the sharpening divide in Thailand will establish a government in exile.

Robert Amsterdam says so far there is no identifiable host state but it is believed by Red Shirts that there are a number of nations set to offer a safe place.

Proximity would imply a neighbour state like Cambodia, but it could invite military retaliation and sanctions from an angry and humiliated Thailand.

It is unclear whether any Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) state would risk the association's bedrock doctrine of non-interference to provide a political safe haven for Thaksin and Ms Yingluck.

It could bring down the political order and harmony of ASEAN, a dull but effective piece of architecture that has assisted socio-economic and political development in the region for decades.

The exile government decision is being made just a day after the coup overthrew the government and military rulers detained Ms Yingluck.

Ms Yingluck is among more than 100 politicians being held at an army base in Bangkok, and Thailand's military chief said reforms were needed before an election could be held.

Is Singapore getting ready to recognise the illegal Military Junta of thailand soon?

SINGAPORE: The Republic has no plans to impose sanctions on Thailand following the military coup, Law and Foreign Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said in an interview with Bloomberg on Monday (May 26).

“I don’t think Singapore is looking at sanctions, that’s not our style,” he said in the interview at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “I don’t think it’s appropriate to talk about sanctions.”

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which Singapore and Thailand are members of, adopts a consensus approach to matters affecting its 10 members, and has “not generally taken the path of sanctions,” Mr Shanmugam said.

The Thai army last Thursday seized power in a widely condemned coup after months of anti-government protests and political turmoil.

Mr Shanmugam also told Bloomberg that Singapore was unlikely to withdraw military cooperation with Thailand. “The US has its own calculations,” he said of the United States’ decision to cancel ongoing military exercises with Thailand.

It was important to respect Thailand’s internal processes, Mr Shanmugam added.

“There is deep polarization and Thailand has to find a way of bridging that polarization and find a structure for society that is workable for itself, and only the Thais can do it,” he said in the interview. “It has had stability for a period and then it’s been impacted and I don’t think it’s good for the Thai economy or the people of Thailand.”

“Uncertainty is not good for the Thai economy and by extension it’s not good for the rest of us,” Mr Shanmugam was quoted as saying. “I think the Thai leadership recognises that.”

On the ongoing territorial dispute in the South China Sea, Mr Shanmugam said the issue will take a long time to address. “What’s achievable is to try and have a code of conduct that tries to work out how the countries, countries’ ships and so on interact with each other, what can be done, what cannot be done, what kind of conduct is acceptable, what kind of conduct is unacceptable.”

Leaders of ASEAN have separately called for an expeditious conclusion to the South China Sea code of conduct, which they say will help prevent future incidents in the disputed waters that could escalate tensions.

Mr Shanmugam told Bloomberg it was difficult to put a timeframe on reaching the code. “There’re a lot of issues yet to be resolved.”

The really key deadline after that will be 5 Dec, the birthday of the king. If they plan to install the princess as regent, they will have to do it by then.
We are therefore looking at a timeline of 3 to 6 months.

Incidentally the crown prince is in Hampshire with a delegation of 30. Unlike his normal pattern of being with one of his many mistresses, he is actually with his wife. His 9-year old son is not present. That video of the crown prince and his topless G-string wife has been widely circulated in Europe as the governments sympathetic to hosting Thaksin's government-in-exile are mainly based in Europe.

On the queen, the South hate her because of her previous arming of the militias in the South to try and repress the Muslims. In a way I hope all these is true....and it seems likely....thaksin would never float the idea of govt in exile unless he is confident of royal legitimacy.
