SINGAPORE: A five-year study of up to 800 children has shown that a low concentration of Atropine eye drops can significantly reduce myopia.

In the first trial, it showed that atropine eye drops at a concentration of one per cent can effectively reduce myopia progression over a two-year period.

However, there were side effects such as experiencing a glare in the sunlight and a reduced ability to focus on near objects.

A second trial which tested a lower concentration of 0.01 per cent of Atropine proved more effective.

Professor Donald Tan, medical director at Singapore National Eye Centre, said: "The lowest dose of 0.01 per cent almost had no side effects. There is minimal dilation of the pupil and almost no effect on the near vision ability for the children. All of them can see very well. There were no safety issues at all. At this ultra-low dose, there were no side effects but we were still getting a significant effect on controlling myopia. It turns out that 0.01 per cent can reduce myopia progression by about 50-60 per cent which is actually huge."

Pap will not even use reserves to help the blind. What makes you think they will help the myopic?
