Let's get the facts right first.

Investigations revealed that on the same day at about 6pm, while the victim was watching television in the living room with her children, the accused confronted the victim over family issue and a dispute subsequently broke out between them.

The victim wanted to leave the house and picked up her house keys to open the padlock to the gate. However, the accused stood in front of her and questioned her as to where she was going. As the victim was unable to get passed the accused, she then walked into the kitchen to prepare dinner. Whilst doing so, the victim made a call to the police informing that the accused refused to let her leave the house.

Upon hearing this, the accused got angry and pulled the victim's hair from the back. The accused then grabbed a knife from the kitchen counter and started stabbing the victim over her chest and shoulder. The accused also slashed the victim over her arms and legs. When the accused realized that the knife was bent, he threw it aside and picked up a larger knife. The accused then continued stabbing and slashing the victim. The victim pleaded with the accused to stop but her pleas were ignored.

At about 6.30pm, a neighbour heard loud commotion from the victim's unit and decided to go over to check. He saw a set of keys hung in the keyhole of the padlock to the gate of the victim's unit. The neighbour then opened the gate and entered the victim's unit. Therein, he saw the victim squatting on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood and the accused's back facing him.

As the neighbour walked towards the kitchen, the accused turned and faced him. The neighbour saw that the accused holding a knife in his hand. At this time, the victim then uttered some words which the neighbour could not make out. The accused suddenly turned towards her and stabbed the victim's back three times. The neighbour tried to talk to the accused to ask him to stop but the accused walked towards him holding the knife in his right hand at face level. The neighbourthen fled towards his house and called for police assistance.

Whilst the accused was distracted by the neighbour, the victim took the opportunity and escaped into the kitchen toilet. However, the accused came into the toilet and continued stabbing and slashing the victim. At one point, the accused attempted to saw the victim's neck with the knife but the victim managed to push the accused away. The accused then used his leg to step on the victim's neck but the victim put up a struggle and kicked the accused in the groin. The accused then stopped his attack and left.

Shortly after, the accused returned to the toilet. The accused then saw the victim was still alive and he continued stabbing and slashing the victim. At this juncture, the victim's elder son came and told the accused to stop but the accused replied that "No, she must die, she must not live, I must kill her." The accused then continued to stab and slash the victim.

The victim was warded from 30 September 2007 till 18 October 2007. She was noted to have sustained the following injuries:

1. Multiple deep lacerations to chest, back, neck, face, left shoulder requiring surgical repairs
2. Massive left haemothorax due to lacerated internal mamillary artery and vein, fracture rib requiring chest tube drainage and surgical thoracotomy
3. Right forearm deep laceration, requiring surgical repair
4. Right 3rd, 4th and 5th finger laceration, first dorsal webspace laceration requiring surgical repair
5. Left upper limb lacerations and cut left extensor digitorum communis muscle and partial cut tendon of left triceps requiring surgical exploration and repair
6. Right ear stab wound with cut cartilage requiring toilet and suture.

The accused did voluntarily cause grievous hurt to the victim by means of a knife with blade measuring 18 cm in length, an instrument used as a weapon of offence likely to cause death, by using the said knife to stab and slash the victim.

In subsequent posts, we shall see how the accused managed to get out of this "bloody mess" (pun intended), smelling sweet and innocent, by submitting falsehoods unchallenged in court.

Please look at the big picture. these are actions of a man psychopathic or driven to the edge or amok!!!! ask yourself what triggered it???? the wife who must have said something nasty to trigger it off. in affidavit the wife repeatedly belittles her husband. I do not doubt that there are violent woman. But I swear to the Almighty God, that Russell is the abusive spouse in this past marriage.

I just read the CJ's judgement on this case, and I'm so upset that I can't get past the first two paragraphs that contain incorrect facts. I shall write about these two now and others later as I've gathered the mental and emotional strength to carry on.

The Honourable Chief Justice wrote:

(iii) There was provocation by [Goh] especially [vis-à-vis] the day’s events leading to the incident in question. In particular, on the day prior to the ncident, [Goh] had called the [Appellant] a liar and [had] told [the elder] son … lies about the Appellant, which caused the [Appellant] to be extremely upset and worried about the effect of the statements on [the elder son]. The quarrel continued to escalate with [Goh] daring the [Appellant] to kill her. The [Appellant] managed to walk away from the taunt. The next day, [Goh] refused to retract statements that she [had] made of the [Appellant] and instead said that they were true and added two more lies about the [Appellant], in particular, that he [had] threatened to kill himself, which caused the [Appellant] to be extremely stressed and agitated as he was worried about [the elder son] who had previously expressed suicidal thoughts. The history of abusiveness by [Goh] aggravated and intensified the provocation on the day in question.

(iv) The ncident was not pre-meditated as it arose out of a sudden and intense argument between the [Appellant] and [Goh]. The [Appellant] was still at the scene and in a daze when the police arrived.

This is so, so ridiculous.

1. Calling a person a liar has always been Russell's hallmark. On the day itself as well as the day before, he had told the children in front of me that "Your mother is a liar", that I sucked *****, that I drank s****, that "Your mother is mad for believing in God", that "Your mother is a psychotic b****" etc etc.

I remember the Investigation Officer taking my statement on this matter. I had said that it was Russell who was being provocative, insulting and demeaning in words. The IO had even asked me how to spell s****.

During the time when Russell was on bail, he had repeatedly written to me and my family such non-sensical things with references to me as a "liar". For instance, he wrote "Jann is an inveterate liar and that she could very well have told those sick lies to Zhiren and also lied about every single thing in her statement. " In the latest affidavit he filed for interim access, he said I had a "track record of telling very serious lies to the police and the Court".

I didn't know that one can make unsubtantiated claims in affidavits and mitigation pleas with no repercussions nor accountability.

I do not understand why the CJ would believe that I was the only one being provocative in words, when I was merely retaliating in words to Russell's extremely provocative words. If the court thinks Russell had been meek and placating in his quarrels with me, let me offer some evidence to show case his prowess in verbal provocation. I have an audio recording, I have three witnesses (one of whom is a neighbour) and I have his writings. Tell me what more do you need????

All Russell had, was his hot air, his words, plus ample air-time plus multiple stages (e.g. counsellor, psychiatrists and the Court).

2. It is not a lie that Russell had tried to kill himself. He admitted it many times in his own writings as well as his latest affidavit, "I was so hurt that I contemplated suicide by sitting on a window ledge". Hey, hey, is anybody listening?

Russell had not been in a daze when he was stabbing. He had stabbed and stopped for three times. There were at least twice I overhead him saying to the children, not to come into the kitchen because the floor was slippery. Can a person who is in a daze has the presence of mind to say that???

There are so many other factual inaccuracies - falsehoods originated from Russell, irresponsibly taken up by paid "professionals", unchallenged and unverified in court and finally amplified by the High Court.


What else can I say? Why is evidence not reviewed nor weighed against Russell's words?

This is not first such incident. Nearly 25 years ago, a mild manner man smothered his wife to death with a pillow. The man had married the woman who had a son out of wedlock. The man called the police after the murder and surrendered.

Investigation revealed that the woman began bullying the man shortly after the marriage. The nighbours revealed that the man was allowed to sit on one chair in his house.

Then one day the man snapped.

After serving time for mansalughter, he is now running his own food stall in food court.

Things like this applies to bother gender. The intention to kill is never disputed. It what led to the killing or the intention to kill that carries weight.
