The committee has explained why it does not peg ministerial pay to what other world leaders are paid, by pointing out - among other things - that every country employs different methods to determine the pay of political appointees and conditions in one may not correlate with another's. Also, it notes, in many countries a low cash salary may be topped up with large but less-visible perks.
What makes our politicians so unique that they should not be compared with others elsewhere? Or are we aiming to set global standards?
