The oppos for all their time pontificating and strategizing for the next GE have failed to see one obvious truth that is right in front of their nose.
Yes, its true that many PAP policies like the influx of FTs, NS, cost of HDB flats, retirement prospects, healthcare costs etc. have negatively impacted many singaporeans. But examine this closely, and look at specifically which group of sinkies have this affected. The majority of PAP policies hit hardest at WORKING AGE NATIVE BORN MALE SINGAPOREANS. I have no doubt that many male sinkies will vote against the PAP. But what about the other 50% of voters, the females?
Many women I talk to do not know why I am ranting and raving against the PAP policies. They do not have to do NS, and so they do not question what they are defending the country from. Their job prospects are not negatively impacted due to reservist obligations and what not. They do not fear large FT influxes because they are more on a level playing field with them than sinkie males are. In fact, if the FTs are ang mos, it might be better for them as they can marry one and get out. As long as they have their shopping, holiday trips, etc. they are fine. The onus is not on them to look for nice housing, its on their husband. The pressure they have is to look for a husband with the 5 Cs and is a good prospect. The pressure is on the male for the material side of things. Hard to do when all these PAP policies are flying against you.
The PAP know this, and have cultivated the women vote. hence, u have the women's charter giving females much more rights than any other asian country would. The women are not interested in seeing any other political party in power that might make them do NS, or reduce the power of the Women's Charter. Hence, they will continue to vote PAP.
Its time for the oppo to see and recognise this. They have to pursuade the females to support their husbands and brothers by voting against the PAP. Their vote is crucial and is the deal breaker. I don't see Uncle Yap or GMS cultivating their vote at all. Time for them to wake up.
