[h=1]HR MANAGER CONFIRMS THAT PAP POLICIES ARE CAUSING LOCALS TO FALL BEHIND IN JOB MARKET[/h]

Dear TRS,
I am currently working in the HR industry where I deal mainly with headhunting for managerial level positions.
As a Singaporean, I would like to express my frustration with how Singaporeans are falling behind in the job market thanks to the PAP’s model. As someone who has worked in London for 2 years, I have seen how the labour market is very different from here and there.
Unlike in Singapore, there are labour laws in the UK which protect the employees. One, there are transparency requirements where you have the right to know why you are terminated and a comprehensive suite of benefits under law.
In addition, the best part is that the state will provide you with temporary benefits as you are in transition for more than 2 months. The PAP supporters will call this as wasting money and dis-incentivising people to find jobs. But I have seen personally how desperate people are and this will actually save them from their feeling totally worthless.
Also, employers in Europe do not have a luxury of an influx of cheap labour and they actually have comprehensive training programmes. This is something lacking in Singapore where they expect you to know everything. It seems like most employers expect an almost perfect fit of low price and high skills already. Employers are actually very spoilt.
Recently, things have gotten quite out of hand. The first batches of ASEAN scholars were let in about 2004 period and many of them who stayed on are now about their 30s already. They are typically at the junior manager level and they seem to be very biased towards their own countryman as they choose workers. That is not the only way on how Singaporeans are prejudiced.
Some people also ask me whether NS is a liability and the answer is yes. When you move into senior management level, employers want to see that you have been a high-flyer since young and they demand that you become a manager by age 30 latest. For guys, they have NS which delays their entry to workforce by 2 years and their reservist is not acceptable for key industries like finance and construction where delays cannot be have. Even for 2 weeks.
There are also many HR recruiters who are from India and they have taken under-the-table bribes from their own countryman and are willing to blatantly breach the laws (minimum pay for S-pass, fake education papers are the most common).
I really hate the PAP for the mess they have caused and I even am worried for my own job as well as that of my family and friends if this influx continues. Hope they get voted out in 2016.
