In the British tradition which we partly adopt, the sovereign does not sing the anthem (God Save the King / Queen) which is directed at him / her. As such, our President (our sovereign) does not sing the National Anthem.

In fact, in his first NDP, SR Nathan committed the serious faux pas of singing the anthem, and it was asked if we had changed our traditions.
