Why must a new Pope adopt a name of his predecessors that had been recycled and used a dozen times or more?

Like this current one. Leo XIV. Why can't he use a name like Matthias, Jude, Philip or Andrew? Or even his own name, Robert?

Royalties do that. The pope is the king of a very wealthy and sovereign state.
 
prefer him picking maximiliano, a true roman name. maximiliano i who became holy roman emperor in 1508 was never crowned by then reigning pope julius ii as his journey to rome was blocked by conniving and opposing venetians. if he were to becum maximiliano as pope he could re-address the wrong done to maximiliano uno the holy roman emperor. but he picks leo xiv instead, following papal tradition and turning the catholic church back to conservatism with social compassion as leo xiii was well known for.

Just like you become Muslim and use arabic naMes although it's not really needed.
