Is this a case of bluff vs double bluff?
Could it be because the election backlash has made some village idiot somewhere realize that when such a pro-PAP organization is associated with yet another PAP puppet - it'll work further in their disfavour.
I find it hilarious that NTUC which decides on the future of workers, wage fixing etc, policy and public admits it has a meeting of 800 or so delegates can't come out with the actual truth of what happened behind closed doors and take a decision.
If Tony already has the backing of the press then why doesn't he have the further backing of the workers? Or has Tan Kin Lian's history with the NTUC come into play?
Of course The Straight Times tells it straight when it chooses to. No reporter had the wherewithal to ask WHY they couldn't make a decision?

"But Mr De Payva added that he felt personally that former deputy prime minister Tony Tan fits the bill of a suitable president for the labour movement and workers. Said Mr De Payva: 'We are mindful of who we think who should be president but we have not decided whether to endorse. We may, we may not.'Dr Tan said he would welcome endorsement from any organisations but it was a decision for the NTUC to make.
The NTUC had endorsed presidential candidates in the past. It backed President S R Nathan when he first stood in 1999 and his predecessor Mr Ong Teng Cheong in 1993.
Both spoke to reporters after a closed door dialogue between Dr Tan and 500 union leaders Tuesday afternoon at the NTUC Centre. Dr Tan, 71, is one of five potential candidates vying to contest the upcoming presidential election which is set to see the fiercest fight since the Elected Presidency's inception in 1993."[/I]
