India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 33 lakh mark on Thursday with 75,760 fresh infections and 1,023 deaths, in the last 24 hours.

The total caseload in the country rises to 33,10,235 including 7,25,991 active cases, 25,23,772 cured/discharged/migrated & 60,472 deaths, as per the latest Ministry of Health Data.

Earlier today, ICMR revealed that upto 3,85,76,510 covid samples including 9,24,998 ones on Wednesday (August 25) alone have been tested till August 26.

Also a name for 10 million called crore written as 1,00,00,000

Also historical. Cost of living and the Rupees would stretch a long long way.
Unlike today, even in the 1960s and 1970s salaries were in the low low hundreds.
Rich men in older times were referred to as having "many lakhs" thus lakhshapati and of course.
Crorepati was a person whose assets are worth at least one crore or 10 million rupee - an astronomical sum in those days.
Learnt this from my FT colleague.

FYI 100 rupees in 1960 are equivalent to 7,455.64 rupees in 2020. 7450 rupees is S$138.
100,000 rupees is S$1847.20
10 Million Rupees is S$184,720
