Ageism is a significant issue in the workplace, rooted in several common misconceptions. There is a common, but often false belief that older employees are unwilling to learn new skills or embrace new technology. They may be stereotyped as having declining cognitive abilities or be less productive than their younger colleagues, despite evidence that experience often compensates for any minor age-related changes in processing speed. Bosses may assume older workers are nearing retirement and therefore a poor return on investment for training or promotion opportunities. Please share the types of discrimination that older employees often have to put up with.
