Ageism is a significant issue in the workplace, rooted in several common misconceptions. There is a common, but often false belief that older employees are unwilling to learn new skills or embrace new technology. They may be stereotyped as having declining cognitive abilities or be less productive than their younger colleagues, despite evidence that experience often compensates for any minor age-related changes in processing speed. Bosses may assume older workers are nearing retirement and therefore a poor return on investment for training or promotion opportunities. Please share the types of discrimination that older employees often have to put up with.

Many companies pressure older workers towards retirement through creating a hostile work environment, assigning them to positions where they are set up to fail, or using job reassignments as a way to sideline them. Other methods include offering early retirement packages, creating a climate of stress and job insecurity, or conducting layoffs that affect older workers, while hiring younger staff.

After decades working, the older folks should have enough contacts with dane age executives to create a start up. Or a new development. Or business.

Ageism is rampant in the SG workplace practised by SG Employers and overlooked (not noticed) by SG MOM.

it’s common elderly do other lower rank normal jobs after being retrenched or when they retire

It’s common bro, get used to it. The younger ones are always given a chance but again I notice many old birds I worked with before are either very lazy or full of excuses to skip tasks

Those old folks who are dynamic and creative never retire. They just move on regardless. Always looking fir new ideas and contacts. Like what i do delivering food.

What I do not like abt some old birds is that they think they deserve to be working in the company. Unless it’s the business they run otherwise when it’s time to retire, just look for something more dynamic like what you have shared

The original poster must be living in his or her own tiny world.

Many of the older workers are assholes with low productivity very good at genging act blur and do the minimal. And worst like to gossip stir shit and even steal money. Just look at the local news about work place frauds and you know what I mean.

Yes. They are definitely gossip and shit stirrers for sure

if no label as poor performer then how to justify need for import quota and support government policy??? bo bian one ..... same like labelling islanders as daft sinkies by the papayas :whistling:

If they have not amassed corporate power to establish their empire within the company, then they are doomed. The first step is to eliminate all competition. Promote your loyalists and have them oppress and bully your competition into resigning. Don't worry, labor laws are non existent in Sinkieland.

The govt continues to claim that labour laws with regard to anti-discriminatory regulations would be costly to employers, so they remain as guidelines at best these days.

The govt has confessed to being pro-business which means pro-employer, and by extension, anti-employee.
As long as employee, there is no permanent job. When they don’t want means they don’t want. Tell Govt, they pro business, pro employer blah blah. 65% vote for this

What I can’t stand is this large food chains taking over small food eatery because we will end up with ah Tiong and Viet bus cooking their own version of our local dishes

Small local FNB businesses are closing down one by one because if 50% of their takings are paid to the landlord, there is no way that they can remain profitable or stay open for business for long.

They suffer the most in silence
