A few points:

1) Tan Kin Lian should know by now that he has zero chance of winning the election. He is also odds-on to lose his deposit. I would be surprised if he manages to get more than 8% of the vote. Knowing that he is going to receive a humiliating drubbing, he is now desperate and playing for sympathy votes by attacking Tan Jee Say. It is just an excuse. Anyone is allowed to join the Presidential Election. His excuses sound similar to Desmond Lim's excuse after getting trounced in the GE. He claimed that WP "parachuted" their candidate into "his" constituency even though he declared his intention first. I didn't know that election candidacy was decided on a first-come-first-served basis. Can I now say that I want to contest East Coast, Joo Chiat, Moulmein-Kallang and Ang Mo Kio in GE2016, so all parties BETTER not think of contesting there??

2) Instead of fighting to keep his deposit, he could have just withdrawn. What is the point of taking part in a competition when you have no chance of winning? "Many people" told him to withdraw before Nomination Day, but he refused to listen due to his stubbornness.

3) Does he understand election strategy at all?

4) Now, let's say that TKL manages to get 8% of the votes, and the winning margin for Tony Tan over the runner-up is 7%. Tan Kin Lian will be hated by the whole country as he would be held responsible for 6 years of a Tony Tan Presidency. Did he not bear this in mind? Why does he want to run the risk of leaving behind a stinking legacy? And becoming a 千古罪人???

5) If his vote % is pathetically low, like 6% or less, this will mean the end of his fledgling political career. He will not be taken seriously as a candidate in future elections, including general elections. He will be viewed as a clownish figure similar to Desmond Lim, and similar to how Andrew Kuan is viewed nowadays.

ALL THE SIGNS WERE POINTING TO HIM TO WITHDRAW.

WHY DIDN'T HE??

walaueh... he declare wanting to join the presidential race during the minibond saga. How he know TJS will be contesting?

TKL did his sums and knew that TJS' nomination may put him in the last place and possibly lead him to forfeit his deposit. By his own admission, he saw the writing on the wall.

Yet, it appears TLK had too much pride to withdraw his candidacy, but I suspect this impulse went against his better judgment.

he's a PAP mole sent to split the votes lah...................

TT we all know he is 100% sure is PAP dog
TCB & TKL maybe is PAP mole
The only we can count on is TJS. I sure he will do the check and balance.
Best of all he announce that he willing to take pay cut from $4m to $500k for President salary if he win.
This will save more than $100m/year because all Ministers will have to take pay cut also can save pension.
The immediate saving $100/year if TJS WIN.
