My vague memory tells me that it was because the government decided not to endorse OTC to stand for election for a 2nd term.

But now it seems everyone, if he so wishes, can stand for PE as long as they're eligible. So why must OTC get endorsement from the Government before he can stand for PE ?

If OTC was truly persistent in protecting the reserves and finding out how much reserves we had at that point of time, he could have entered the fray for a 2nd time on his own.

His cancer came back. After his wife's death, he did not go for his regular check-up and I think he gave up hope out of despair over his wife's death. When it came back, too late.

His health have problem maybe both OTC and wife was slowly poison when in Istana.

After he was repeatedly stonewalled, do you think he still wanted to be President?

Do you think he expected to be treated in such a disrespectful manner by the PAP government? If I were him, I would be upset and would not stand for a second term.

It's not the stonewalling, its his refusal to accept the multi-million dollar pay when his love was not money. It was his country and wife and both were gone--the former by you know who

This is why if you expect the President to perform checks and balances, you need a strong, courageous, energetic President. Everyday will be a battle in Istana, unless you are someone like Nathan.
