I was a police regular. That also meant reservist liability if I left the force before liability is up, which I did. After which, I spent most of times abroad. Went through the trouble of apply for properly approved exit permits and renewals of course.

When back in Singapore for several years for marriage (regrettably failed in divorce subsequently) I did show up for a few reservist reportings and IPPTs, as required by law. That's all. Being regular police trained, I went law by law. After divorce, I left Singapore again, on exit permit again of course.

Frankly, even if retroactively applied, I don't feel myself deserving the S$9,000. My sympathy is with my brothers, relatives and compatriots who went through all that, and then considered forgotten.

Think of it as being expendable then forgotten.

I guess this sweetener for the young is on top of the annual income tax relief and other "goodies". The amount of 9K actually is not much by current standards but a symbolic gesture. Whoever came up with this brilliant idea must be shitting in his/her pants now for back firing .

Regardless of all the brothers whom had serve with whichever services. It is a slap on our face with this NSRA.

You must be lying. Why ? You're so handsome and good at sweet talking, unless of course it's your ex-wife's fault. Then again, adultery is a non-starter because you're so handsome, why would your spouse want to commit adultery.

So you must be lying.

It's getting a bit personal but I'll humour you. We both quarreled too often and decided on a mutually agreed divorced. I'll spare you the details and please, hopefully you'll return the favour, don't ask for the details.

$9000 of useless, locked up money which you may not even be able to use for buying your coffin. Nothing to lose sleep over. Education and buy flat? Shove it up yours, PAP!

This NS award stunt serves two main purposes.

1) Attempts to reinforce and affirm the 'citizens first' policy... while floodgates to foreigners are still thrown wide open. So, the next time Singaporeans complain about pro-FT policies, the PAP will use the $9k NS award as a convenient counterexample to silence critics.

2) Vote buying of NSmen for the upcoming election.

This 9K was said to help out the new guards in housing. The old guards were all simply forgotten. It doesn't even need to be 9K, but its like a chinese saying now, qian ren zhong shu, hou ren cheng liang. The forefathers build the tree, the descendants gets the shade.

9K is a symbolic gesture but the gesture was not stretched out to those who were forgotten. Don't depend on others, we have to depend on ourselves.

This is confirmation that when u are old, u are best forgotten; if not useless.
We become a burden to society and the government wants to focus on the young who are economically active and productive and still able to charge up Pengkang Hill if necessary.:D:D

$9K....I just don't know what to say....anyway, it's still money right?

You are clearly undeserving of a spouse, and the divorce I have no doubts must be majority your fault.

Of course, that's even assuming you were actually married to begin with, which seems a bit far fetched.

Ramseth says he was married before and you believe it?

Last time I checked, most gay men were uninterested in straight marriages.
