This is uncalled for! Source close to Najib slams police action

The police's marathon search of former premier Najib Abdul Razak's residence along Jalan Langgak Duta in Kuala Lumpur has raised the ire of those close to him.

A source told Malaysiakini that conducting such an operation on the first day of Ramadhan was unwarranted.

He also shared a photograph of Najib falling asleep on the sofa as police officers from the federal commercial crimes department combed his house.

He pointed out that as a former premier, the latter should be accorded due respect regardless of the circumstances.

“This is uncalled for. Why couldn't they conduct the search earlier? He has to prepare for Sahur (pre-fasting meal) soon,” he added.

The source also criticised Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the operation, which came exactly a week after Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general election.

“Looks like Mahathir's revenge has won. I hope he is happy wherever he is sleeping,” he added.

Earlier, Bukit Aman commercial crime department director Amar Singh Ishar Singh confirmed that police were searching the residence but declined to elaborate.

He was also quoted as saying that similar operations were being carried out at five locations, including the Pavillion Residence in Kuala Lumpur and the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya.

It is believed that the operation is related to the 1MDB scandal.

At about 10.15pm, more than a dozen police cars and a Black Maria truck often used to transport detainees, pulled up outside the former premier's house.

This sparked off speculation that Najib might be arrested.

Yesterday, Mahathir said his predecessor could be charged soon and dismissed the possibility of striking a deal with Najib.

The prime minister also claimed that former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail had told him that he was planning to charge Najib when he was removed from his position.

Abdul Gani was heading a task force comprising the former police chief and heads of Bank Negara and MACC to investigate the RM2.6 billion in Najib's accounts and the SRC International issue.

Police conduct marathon search at Najib's bungalow, all rooms inspected
Yap Jia Hee | Published on 16 May 2018, 11:02 pm | Modified on Today 8:17 am

UPDATED 8.15AM| Scores of police officers from Bukit Aman's federal commercial crimes department conducted a search at former premier Najib Abdul Razak's residence in Jalan Langgak Duta, Kuala Lumpur, which lasted into the wee hours of the morning.

The police team had arrived in more than a dozen cars as well as a Black Maria truck often used to transport detainees at about 10.15pm.

The marathon session is believed to have ended close to 5am. However, at the time of writing, the police were still present at the scene at 8.15am, 10 hours later.

At 3.50am, the Black Maria truck was reversed to the front gates of the bungalow and officers loaded several boxes into the back of the vehicle.

Najib's lawyer Harpal Singh Grewal later told reporters waiting outside that the police seized three to four boxes of handbags and personal belongings.

He also believes that the former premier is being investigated for money laundering.

Harpal (right in photo) said the operation took several hours because of the size of the bungalow and the officers had checked all the rooms.

Earlier, a source close to Najib had criticised the marathon operation and shared a photograph with Malaysiakini showing the former premier asleep on a sofa as police officers combed the house.

Star Online had quoted commercial crimes investigation department director Amar Singh Ishar Singh as stating that the police were searching five locations. This included the upscale Pavillion Residence in Kuala Lumpur and the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya.

He also insisted that it was not a raid.

At about 11am, Harpal had arrived at the house followed by Najib's press aide Tengku Shariffuddin Tengku Ahmad some 20 minutes later.

Sentul district deputy police chief Mohamed Rafiq Mohamed Mustafa was also spotted at the scene.

As he left the scene around 11.40pm, the senior police officer told the media "wait and see" when quizzed on the police presence.

As news of the operation spread, scores of journalists, photographers, and curious onlookers gathered outside the house. This led the police to cordon off the area with yellow tape.

On Sunday, the police disclosed that CCTV footage of the Pavillion Residence was reviewed after a report was lodged.

The report had alleged that a government vehicle delivered dozens of boxes of designer handbags and other items to the condominium for Najib’s wife, Rosmah Mansor.

Last night, Najib tweeted that he was performing his Terawih prayers at the Kampung Baru Mosque in conjunction with the month of Ramadhan.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Najib might be charged soon with regard to the 1MDB scandal and ruled out the possibility of striking a deal with his predecessor.

Would najib be that dumb to store the evidence at his own house? But considering he told the whole world he was going to run road before he left... anything could happen

Dr M can consider to copycat Xijinping's method of 双规. Given a limited time to write a full confession and cooperate fully for concession of punishment.

This happens to CCP's corrupt officers, their party disciplinary board equivalent to CPIB will nap them and keep them in a special detention center, depending on the info they already know or suspected, decide to give a period of time to the accused to make own confession. This speeds up things no need to hunt for and dig for evidence too much. Those who Kuai Lan insisted their innocence if eventually convicted with evidence can get no sentence concession at all. Those who fully cooperated get discount, less Jia Lat.

Just my analysis with regards to wat has happened in mudland..and wat pap will do. I believe that the pap will accelerate being more dictatorial than ever before. Najib has fallen from grace and will be thrown in jail. Basically he is fucked. The oligarchs will now be even more dictatorial to ensure that their own kind will not suffer such a fate. democracy in Singkieland will be further reduced. I forsee the gerrymandering getting worse. Opposition will be sued even more. Aljunied town council court case etc will increase. And the selected presidency will be tightened further more. Makcik will sit for 2 terms. N the next one will be closed to only chup Cheng's because we haven't had a chup Cheng president in decades. The criteria also will be for a billion dollar company. If Singapore last another 50 years. Pap will be there till the 49th year n 364th day. Oh n SERs will be treated like upgrading. On the condition that u gets SERs if u vote pap. I bet pap will get 90% of the vote. So vote pap...n get shafted more.

Actually, I pity the mata. 7 hours of non-stop work. No sleep.

Najib was snoring on the sofa. But these men were packing loads of stuff and shifting them out of the house and into the trucks.

Bet if they load Najib and the sofa into the truck, he will not even know.
