I've lived in Canada & although there is gst, there was no PST in the province I was staying in. In Spore they charge gst on everything including food & medication. In Canada there's no gst charged for food , medicine, childrens clothing, student supplies,...

Which province was that? Probably Alberta?

Well, I've done my calculations. Added up all the taxes in both places. Including GST, PST, COE, ARF, PARF, Property Tax, etc etc and guess what? Singapore still taxes half of what it would cost in ON or PQ. And remember that is not even considering capital gains on our properties.

Don't know about you but I've had to pay income tax in Spore The PAP MP makes so much from Spore taxpayers & yet they don't pay their fair share. Can you imagine LKY receiving millions & millions of $$$, unlimited healthcare, other perks & bonuses & yet pays zero in taxes

I doubt you are using the same calculation that other ex-Sporeans are using because I haven't seen any who've choosen to return to Spore.

For the COE price alone you could buy a car. Unlike in Spore you don't need to do a COE top up every 10 years. Oil prices are cheaper. Road tax is cheaper.

Other than the monetary advantages there is also other quality of life issues: no NS, cheaper property, more leaisure time, less crowding, ...

The development of China is too fast and too uneven.

On paper, it might look as if China is growing really well, but bear in miond that the development is more in the cities, more so in the coastal cities and many of the interland cities and town are not growing as well and fast and even good as the rest of the country. there are too many poor whereas the rich is getting rich too fast.

Dont get too excited with the chinese development. they could really be the reason when the next global crisis came about and this time, we might not recover at all.

Done all the sums. COE+ARF is at best $80k. Amortised over 10 years is $8k.

If you're making $150k a year, Canada taxes will kill you much more than all the COEs ARFs and GSTs can.
