Just look at the USA. If the Democrats and the Republicans could work together for the good of the country on significant issues such as healthcare, crime and defense, much of the country's problems could be solved pretty much overnight. However, chances of that happening are a big fat zero for obvious reasons. Every politician is there for their own selfish aims. The state of the country is not their concern.
