Former S.League footballer Adrian Dhanaraj has sadly passed away on Wednesday night after a hard-fought battle against cancer.

The player who turned 29 just last week, was diagnosed late last year with stage two of Hodgkin's lymphoma, which is a cancer of the lymph nodes, forcing him to take a break from football.

Adrian took the setback positively and fought hard against his illness, hoping to return to football eventually and had set himself a return date. According to media reports earlier this year, chemotherapy treatments and stem cell transplants had not taken and the defender revealed that he harboured fears that the worst might transpire having read of the deaths of those who had been diagnosed with the same illness.

Famed for being a tough tackler on the pitch, Adrian did not let up and was determined to press on, having also enrolled for undergraduate studies at SIM. He also maintained a daily workout regime to keep in shape. Adrian also went on as a guest commentator at the 25th Canon Lion City Cup and as a pundit on other football shows.

A former Geylang United (now Geylang International), Singapore Armed Forces FC (now Warriors FC), Young Lions and Gombak United player, he made two appearances for Singapore against Vietnam and North Korea in the VFF Cup in 2010.

Adrian is understood to have passed away at around 10pm Wednesday night and Goal Singapore expresses our deepest condolences to his family.

His wake will be held at Singapore Casket, level five from 2p.m. onwards today, with the funeral scheduled for tomorrow.
