Omnicron (from Africa) can use CECA as trojan horse to enter Singapore. Banning Africa flight is useless, but don't expect MTF to have that intellect to see the bigger picture.
SINGAPORE: Two Singapore Airlines passengers who tested positive for the Omicron COVID-19 variant in Sydney had travelled from South Africa and transited at Changi Airport before heading on to Australia, said authorities.
The New South Wales health ministry said the two individuals arrived in Sydney on flight SQ211 on Nov 28.
Both travellers were fully vaccinated and have since been placed in isolation.
Singapore authorities said the two passengers left Johannesburg, South Africa on a Singapore Airlines flight on Nov 27 and arrived at Changi Airport the same day for their transit flight.
They remained in the transit area until their departure the next day, said the authorities, with Changi Airport's website showing that SQ211 departed Singapore at 10.30am on Nov 28 and landed in Sydney at 9.20pm the same day.
Singapore had previously announced tighter restrictions for passengers with recent travel history to seven African countries.
Those measures took effect at 11.59pm on Nov 27, with all long-term pass holders and short-term visitors with travel history within the last 14 days to Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe not allowed to enter or transit in Singapore.

Scientists now have reason to believe that the Omicron variant may have originated from a HIV or AIDS patient with a long-term Covid-19 infection, The Telegraph reported.

Richard Lessells, an infectious diseases expert in South Africa, told the newspaper that it was likely that the Omicron variant was incubated in an untreated HIV/ AIDS patient.
Lessells was part of the team that first sounded the alarm about the spread of the new variant.
How did the name came about? They already have Delta and I thought the new variant should be called Osaka. May be they are afraid of insulting Japan but why not consider the new name called Alpha, Charlie? The missing Bravo is also telling as to why Alpha and charlie is not considered.

Yesterday, they just announced stricter testing for air travellers because public health people highlighted that the first few days was like a free-for-all. Omicorn was just the catalyst. PCR documents were difficult to verify, don't need to buy fake results, one can just photoshop the documents. Transit was worse because we wanted to help SIA as SIA had no domestic business (read how we exported omicron to Australia). The land borders opening had poor social distancing too, your neighbourhood malls were stricter.
Drinking spots had reopened and flourish. Although WFH is the "preferred default arrangement", surprisingly everyone wore casual (from home) and head down to town for drinks. Even KTVs have reopened, not as a BISTRO. With the reopened borders, butterfly prices had crashed from $300 to $100 which is quite reasonable. (Pre-covid prices was $50).
