Talk about privilege and entitlement, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited Lucky’s Steakhouse in the U.S. for a lavish meal, costing around US$10,000, they had no intention to pay. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex expected restaurant owner, Brian Robbins to waive the charges for the US$500 Wagyu steaks, caviar with edible gold flakes and imported champagne. Meghan wanted Robbins to cover the hefty bill, believing that their royal presence would be good for business. Harry was visibly embarrassed while Meghan seemed furious at not getting her way. Unfortunately, privilege and entitlement is not uncommon for so-called elites in S'pore and overseas; while it’s unusual for our PAP politicians to seek complimentary hotel stays or fine dining sponsorship from business owners, they expect VIP treatment and special privileges wherever they go.
