The 63-year-old Serbian is adamant that he has no plans to stay on as national coach.
Yet his departure comes at an awkward time as the Lions' next major assignment is only about one-and-a-half months away - they begin their qualifying campaign for the 2015 Asian Cup against Jordan in Amman on Feb 6 and host Oman on March 22.
Their third match, against Syria, will take place in October.
So what is the Football Association of Singapore's (FAS) game plan? All I've heard so far is that they are waiting for him to submit his report on the Suzuki Cup. I mean, seriously?
If Avramovic is really bent on leaving, then we could be in trouble - because hiring a replacement will not happen overnight.
By the time a new coach has been installed, he will have barely enough time to prepare his charges for a tournament the Lions will be desperate to do well in, to sustain the fans' enthusiasm brought about by the Suzuki Cup win, and achieve the FAS' next target of reaching the Asian Cup finals.
Given the short time-frame before the start of the qualifiers, I feel the FAS should try to persuade Avramovic to stay for up to another six months.
