What's the plan now, FAS, if you have one?

Confuseous

The 63-year-old Serbian is adamant that he has no plans to stay on as national coach.

Yet his departure comes at an awkward time as the Lions' next major assignment is only about one-and-a-half months away - they begin their qualifying campaign for the 2015 Asian Cup against Jordan in Amman on Feb 6 and host Oman on March 22.

Their third match, against Syria, will take place in October.

So what is the Football Association of Singapore's (FAS) game plan? All I've heard so far is that they are waiting for him to submit his report on the Suzuki Cup. I mean, seriously?

If Avramovic is really bent on leaving, then we could be in trouble - because hiring a replacement will not happen overnight.

By the time a new coach has been installed, he will have barely enough time to prepare his charges for a tournament the Lions will be desperate to do well in, to sustain the fans' enthusiasm brought about by the Suzuki Cup win, and achieve the FAS' next target of reaching the Asian Cup finals.

Given the short time-frame before the start of the qualifiers, I feel the FAS should try to persuade Avramovic to stay for up to another six months.

LOL @ submit report. What is this, working at a police station or civil service?

With those bureaucrat nincompoops in charge of FAS, Singapore's football will never achieve anything significant.

Methinks the secret plan in the drawer was for the outcome of Suzuki to be known, and let 'sources' push for the Raddy clown to stay. Meantime, run stories of Vietnam offering double of what he is being paid etc and viola, Zainnudin provides excellent leadership to say that after listening to the people, and the Serb was persuaded to provide more good years.

The MSM are running stories of what a great job he has done, ad nauseum. What has he done for soccer when he has a 42-year old Duric running all over the pitch after 9 years of talent identification?

with Duric around............like playing with just 10 men............the fucker is so slow, i wouldn't even bother marking him.......

Duric is physical, even though he is old. Not like our skinny nasi lemak boys who can't even hold onto a ball after one push

Raddy should go, and as planned, which is now.
Give the job to Sundram for the Asian qualifier while we look for a permanent replacement.

The problem is, none of the local coaches dare to take the job. They are just not confident.

richard bok seems ready for it now that fandi is gone. sundram -best to get more experience eith lions xII for another few years

Don't know who the next coach will be, but the next chairman of FAS will inevitably be a MIW.

I read a report, could be from ST, that one of the guys in the running to be the next coach could be former Arsenal player and Leeds manager, David O'Leary.

This chap nearly took Leeds to a champions league place, but after that, Leeds just went spiralling down the top tier of english football and eventually were relegated, saddled with financial problems.

nothing against o'leary, but why always ppl think angmo are better when the fact more often than not they are just rubbish.

O'Leary was a top player when he played for Arsenal and Republic Of Ireland, but he has not proven himself to be a good manager. As I posted earlier, he had his ups and downs at Leeds, and the down nearly resulted in calamity for them.

Avramovic was himself a top goalkeeper in the old english first division (equivalent to BPL today) with Notts County and the former Yugoslavia.

In terms of being proven football men, both these chaps have the credentials, but perhaps not as top world class managers or coaches.

I'm of the view that national team coaches should be local, and not only for S'pore, all countries too. Just live with what you have.

They have no fucking plans lah. When asked about how much $$ the govt wants to invest, Lawrence Wong damn useless said money is not everything. Simeh lanjiao! Money is every damn thing. If the govt wants success, lan lan have to invest. Probably S$100m a year. S$1billion, 10 year road map to the World Cup. Dun fuck around like Mah Bow Tan and Goh Chok Tong. Talk is cheap, must action.

Build infrastructure and build up the S-league. Everything is a fucking mess now. Not to take away the Lions' achievements but the only reason why we won the Suzuki Cup is that Thailand and Indonesia are in deep shit. Thailand with political troubles and Indonesia with their shit two national football association.

Correct. And the reason why is a simple one. They never expect S'pore to win. They expect S'pore to drop even lower in FIFA rankings, so why bother to plan anything if the worst is inevitable. S'pore won not because it is good. It's because Thailand is also not a good team unlike before. To be attacking for more than 90 mins in a game and yet only managed one goal speaks volume of how lousy Thailand has become. The whole football situation in south-east asia region has become one of who had deteriorated the least and go on to win the cup!

aiyah............just hire Bryan Robson and Peter Reid..............with these 2 in charge...........S'pore will go far.............very far.............

Bryan Robson has not proven himself as a manager, got Middlesborough relegated and wasn't successful in his other appointments.

Peter Reid was not bad with Sunderland and Man City, but he's gruff and can get excitable, even while watching BPL matches in the tv studio. The sinkie boys may not be used to that..............................
