STOMPer appalled by PRs who think "S'poreans owe them a living"

new_property_rules_stomper_appalled_by_foreigners_who-thumbnail.jpg

STOMPer Kong, who is a Permanent Resident (PR) himself, is appalled by the reactions of other PRs towards the new property rules in Singapore and feels that "foreigners here act as if Singaporeans owe them a living".

A report in The Straits Times today (Jan 12), lists out the new property measures applicable to PRs in Singapore, which have elicited reactions of dismay among Singaporean PRs, citing the new rules as "unfair".

The report states that PRs now face unprecedented limits on their ability to buy property in Singapore. To buy a first property, whether a private unit or a Housing Board resale flat, PRs must pay an additional 5 per cent stamp duty.

If they buy a second flat or subsequent property, the stamp duty is an extra 10 per cent, up from the current 3 per cent more.

Also, PRs who own a HDB flat can no longer sub-let their entire flats although they may still rent out individual rooms.

Finally, while Singaporean flat owners can buy a private property and keep their HDB flats, PRs will no longer be allowed this dual ownership.

Wrote the STOMPer:

"My first reaction after reading the article is that of relieve for Singaporeans that something more is done to 'protect' its citizens.

"I find indignant some of the comments voiced out by the PRs who were generally claiming that the new measures were unfair.

"Talking about 'protectionism', it happens everywhere throughout history, from Japan using legislation to 'prevent' foreigners from buying up their land in Hokkaido, USA using bills and laws on trade, which some say are tantamount to unfair trade practices.

"There is also the recent case of a Greek police officer beating up a Korean visitor who was mistaken as an immigrant in Greece. All of these are 'protection measures', albeit tailored to suit their context.

"These are comparable to Singapore's measure within its context of ensuring that their own citizens are not priced out of buying a home and having to sleep on the streets.

"It is peanuts and the right time for this action to be taken by the government.

"The worst is, some foreigners here even act as if Singaporeans owe them their living.

"By the way, I am a PR (Malaysian) myself, bought and stay in a HDB resale flat and paying my taxes as part of my rightful contribution to this country.

"For those claiming unfairness staying under uncle's house, you have two options - become its son/daughter or butt-out and go back to your 'father' house. And I'm not here to solicit goodwill but to express how I feel."

Foreigners block MRT passageway by dumping luggage on ground

STOMPer San thinks these foreign commuters on the MRT were bring very inconsiderate by obstructing the passageway with their luggage.

The STOMPer wrote:

"These foreigners come to Singapore, dirty our beautiful country with spitting, talking loudly, illegal strikes, and now they obstruct the train passage when there are people standing around.

"They don't even bother to shift their luggage. If they want Singaporeans to give them respect, they should earn it and take a look at what they do."

Indeed. Why hasn't Mr/Ms Malaysian PR converted to become a Singapore citizen then? It is obvious, isn't it? This rhetorical piece is to divert our attention away to other nationalities who are granted SG PRs. A cunning one, this northerner is. I expected no less.

The PAP has been a slut long enough on this PR issue,...all its asking now for is just to be paid a little bit.....

if i had my way, PRs should not even be gven access to public housing unless they have applied for citizenship.

From the photos of the foreigner with his luggage on the MRT, I blame the MRT for letting them in the gantry,,MRT staff are to ensure the rules are not violated,,by letting this people in with their luggage its a hazard,,if anything goes wrong and there is an evacuation. people will be tripping over these luggage,,and is there not a rule that says 1 luggage only if going to air port?

According to the FAP, Sinkapoor will collapse without foreigners. ie why the beg so many of them to come and take away our jobs.

Public housing should not have been accessible to non citizens in the first place!
Whether they are PRs or they have married Singaporean, they should not have been given access to ownership of any HDB flats!
If they have the money and they claimed to have contributed so much to the Singapore economy, then they could jolly well afford a over-priced HUDC pigeon hole or private property because they are well paid!
And if they couldn't afford such private properties then these type of talents are just simply not required!

The answer is the farking PAPzis have been putting down Singaporeans via the mainstream media and using MOM, ICA, SPF to suck the cocks of these mostly useless FTs.

PRs should serve in SCDF until 45 if they have missed fulltime NS. They can learn medical and other skills to help the community. They have to serve a total of 2 weeks each year where they will work and minggle with Singaporeans and other PRs.

I only know one FT, an Australian who did NS. This guy did 2 years in SCDF. He was actually an ex-Singaporean. His parents emigrated to Australia when he was very young. Unfortunately he decided to marry a Sporean who was studying in Aust. After she graduated she wanted to return to Spore.

After he agreed to do NS, he found the authorities inflexible. I guess he found out what it is to be a Sporean:o

Side track a bit - talking about luggage and the airport. I had been approached by strangers to tongpang their excessive luggage a few times.

Never ever agree to that. Ask them to pay for their own overweight luggage. Coz never know what is in their bags and it is being checked in under your name if you are helpful and agreed to allow him/her tongpang their luggage under your check in.

PR should not be allowed to buy hdb flats.

That would be harsh. You see, the housing shortage and private transportation woes can be completely attributable to the influx of PRs with public housing and private transportation ownership privileges. That is assuming there wasn't a colossal fuck-up in infrastructure and vehicle licensing planning by the authorities, which I am doubtful about the former but do not have enough information to opine on the latter.

If the mainstream opinions hold sway, we have too many PRs, work pass holders and their kinsmen on this rock. After culling the passholders and the kinsmen of foreigners on the island, do we still have too many PRs? Based on the government's response, I suspect it is so. If it is, we have two main policy tools.

1. Limit growth and cull them when we determine they have left our shores for good.
2. Reduce residency privileges

For far too long, PRs have abused the residency privileges extended to them and evaded NS liabilities when it suits them. We should not paint them all in the same brush, but when overly generous privileges are extended, we need to claw back these privileges in order to reduce these unfair resentment that were unnecessarily meted towards them. You see, it is for their own good too.

Now that fella has earned his right to buy a HDB!!

Re: What Makes PRs Think SGs Owe Them a Living? Answer: PAP

who said got hdb can buy private properties?

if got money to buy private properties why buy fake subsidised public housing?

there is a loophole here.

hdb buying term is incorrect it should be called prepaid leasing.

Maybe there should be two categories of PR:-

1) Type 1 PR ( those who have done NS or equivalent contribution to the country) - can buy public housing under PR rules
2) Type 2 PR (others) - cannot buy public housing.

In all fairness, most Malaysian are set to stay in Singapore for the long term. Needless to say, their children are all born and bred here.

I can't say the same about other nationalities.
