lousy acting, no CGI but the movie celebrated the first victory of the KMT over the IJA forces in large scale pitch battle.

the scene of general 張自忠 broke thru IJA 5th corp to relief 庞炳勋 forces was especially touching as 庞炳勋 betrayed 張自忠 in 1930.

a few that i watched n quite like.

pearl harbor - CG effects
saving private ryan - cold brutal reality of war
longest day - no CG but still reflect reality of D-Day
schindler's list - nid not say more
hamburger hill - watched it long time ago...culdn't rem much though
fly boys - not a sibeh good movie but its abt WW1 which has little movies about this genre so i like it.

i want to watch these:
full metal jacket
all silent on the western front (or something)
tora tora tora

all silent on the western front (or something)

should be All Quiet On The Western Front, very old movie about WW1.

What about these:
-- Platoon
-- Apocalypse Now

The Dirty Dozen (1967), non CGI action all the way.

Stellar cast with Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, Charles Bronson, Jim Brown, George Kennedy, Trini Lopez (the singer), Robert Ryan, Telly Savalas (Kojak), Donald Sutherland and a few others. Directed by Robert Aldrich.

The actors who have since died
Marvin (1987 at age 63), Borgnine (2012 at age 96), Ryan (1973 at age 63), Savalas (1994 at age 72), Bronson (2003 at age 81).

Crimson Tide and Behind Enemy Lines

Though I agree Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down sets the standard of the war movies nowadays.
