Winter solstice is like a pre war briefing. Checking if everybody or how many will pull through, have a last meal of the year before rolling out. In this instance it's the winter frost.
CNY is a time of gathering for the head count after the frost and the start of another year. In actual fact another head count so as to plan for new years' manpower allocation for farming.
Simple meaning but just have to be bastardise into a wealth flaunting festival.
