Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam stated in a Straits Times article on 4 July 2022, that minority racial groups (he was referring to Malays) are over-represented in S'pore's prison and crime statistics. He indicated that the govt is cautious about releasing detailed racial breakdowns of these figures publicly, citing concerns that it could reinforce existing stereotypes and hinder efforts to build racial harmony. As if the other races do not already know that crime, drug addiction, incest, poverty etc. are more often that not, committed by Malays in SG. If not for affirmative action, the same over-representation would apply to Malays in Malaysia as well.
