SINGAPORE: Minister of State for Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin said employment growth will not be uniform across all sectors and industries.

Writing in the Manpower blog following the release of the Ministry's statistics on the employment situation for Q1 2012, Mr Tan said this is expected as the foreign workforce growth continues to be moderated.

He said the labour market will remain tight, but unemployment would remain low and even lower than in most other countries.

There will be many more job vacancies compared to the number of unemployed Singaporean job seekers.

Although the unemployment figures are low, Mr Tan said help will be given to those who become unemployed as it affects not only the individual but his or her family as well.

Mr Tan said the Manpower Ministry together with the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), e2i and the Community Development Councils (CDCS) must continue to help match those out of a job with available jobs through various means. This includes helping workers transit between jobs via retraining.

On balance, while the external environment in 2012 remains somewhat uncertain, Mr Tan said the job market is looking relatively positive for Singaporeans and that the government will endeavour to keep it that way.

Free lodging and food if middle aged unemployed commit crimes because no job and money?

Funded by rich 60% and FTs? :D
