They suck up to certain whites - French for their wine and culture, Brits for their English, and Americans for their power. But even these ppl would feel excluded if they lived and worked there long enough. Even purebred Hawaiian or Peruvian Japs are not accepted into the inner circle.

yes, even a nisei jap from u.s. who speaks and writes good nihongo will have a hard time getting assimilated with and accepted by japs. heck, even japs born and bred in tokyo look down or don’t see up on japs born in nagoya or a lesser city such as nagasaki. to be considered one of their own you have to be born and bred there from womb to tomb with some ancestral or historic pedigree, such as someone from a known or recorded lineage with a decent family name hailing from a respectable place. it’s not purely racial. it’s nostalgia and kinship. a couple from niigata who now lives in fremont will find familiarity and be very comfortable with fellow japs who attended the same schools in the same town in niigata but are more reserved when meeting japs from other prefectures.
