2008 Beijing Olympics Singapore olympic table tennis women team did NOT win SG's one and only olympic silver medal, which.....
...was won in the 1960 Olympics. It was in weight-lifting, not table tennis. And the Olympics silver medalist was Tan Howe Liang, not Li Jiawei, Feng Tianwei and Wang Yuegu.
Buying Olympic medals is shameful, especially when there is no welfare money for poor, sick or elderly Singaporeans. PAP's refusal to spend even a single cent to fulfill its governmental responsibility - take care of these Singaporeans Nation Builders who have contributed their entire lives to build up Singapore in the past 40 years - coupled with its willingness to spend millions on foreign sports players, constitutes an unacceptable behaviour that disgust all thinking native Singaporeans.
While other countries do import athletics, no other country ever treats its own native citizens with such contempt while putting foreigners/ new citizens on a pedestal! Your fellow native Singaporeans are proud of you, Mr. Tan Howe Liang!
I sympathise native Singaporean top table-tennis players JENN LIM PEI QI and ZENA SIM, who were not given opportunity to particiapte in tournaments despite being our own top players
Choo Wee Khiang, president of Singapore Table Tennis Association in 1997:
"We can always invite world-class players to live in Singapore and play for us, but I would prefer to see our home-grown players winning the medals instead. There's no reason why we can't do it. After all, we are spending a lot of money on our foreign coaches." (The New Paper, 9 April 1997)
SSC chief executive officer Oon Jin Teik:
"Table tennis did not fulfill all the factors [required to be on our list of role model sports associations] as we are looking at youth development and whether there is a sustainable system (for developing athletes). There is no pipeline for youth athletes ... an NSA may be winning medals but is there a high performance system in place?" (TODAY, 12 June 2008)

This is an educational orientation video, aimed at introducing Singapore to new foreign students studying in Singapore and pupils holding Singapore permanent resident (SPR) cards in primary schools, secondary schools (including the Independent Schools (IS) and those in the Integrated Programme (IP)), junior colleges (JC) and the polytechnics. It is especially recommended for viewing after the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), or the two Semestral Assessments (SA1 and SA2), or the two Continual Assessments (CA1 and CA2), where there are ample time for some Civics and Moral Education (CME). The importance of National Education (NE) cannot be overemphasized, as the Ministry of Education (MOE) has emphasized many times. Students of the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University (SMU) should also view this video, especially if they are under various MOE or Public Service Comission (PSC) scholarships or the edusave scheme.
Foreign Talents (FT) and other not-so-talented foreigners working at Fusionpolis, Biopolis and the other "polis" of various A*STAR organisations may be interested to infuse themselves with some knowledge of Singapore too.
Majullah Singapura!
Happy National Day, Singapore!
Let us all shine for Singapore!
May Singapore always be 晴空万里!
