Yes, Karma certainly exists, just that most pple (and religions) have the wrong idea/definition/concept of Karma (as well as "God", for that matter).

Karma isn't retribution, it's simply 'work', or your contribution to the Universe. When you do good/ethical/helpful actions, that's your good/ethical/helpful karma right there. When you do bad/unethical/harmful actions, that's your bad/unethical/harmful karma right there. There is no retribution.

Karma works, just like promise of an afterlife. It works to make people feel good, when they cannot explain why seemingly bad people are living the good life. ie. Robert Mugabe, LHL. It is comforting to know that these evil people will be either burning in hell or reincarnated as pigs.

it is precisely that you have that line of selfish thinking that you think karma is bullshit. You attitude of minimizing doing bad things because of not antagonizing people and creating enemies for yourself (even when your enemies have done wrong) is nothing but selfish kiasu atitude . there is nothing good in your actions but totally selfish behaviour akin to alot of bystander people doing nothing standing and gawking or laughing when seeing other people eg in accident get hurt. just like alot of sinkies nowadays and thats why bad things still happen to such "good " people who thinks just because they do less bad things they are considered "good". If karma is so easy to undertsand and so direct in its effect, there would not be any crimes in this world and the world would be perfect. it is not so empirical like 1+1=2, otherwise the world would be prefect . I'm not religious.
With the shit going on now with the abuse and misinterpretatiom of religions I think atheists are the best.
I also dun sweat myself thinking over 'profound' and abstract concepts.
My mantra is simple.....selfish? Maybe ....人不为己天株地灭.....
So far it has served me well with a clear conscience and kept me happy.
